NOTE: The process contribution of the existing poultry houses to ammonia concentration and nitrogen deposition rate exceeds the 100% relevant Critical Level and Critical Load at nine discrete receptors located at AWs. Exceedances of 1% of the relevant Critical Levels and Critical Loads at the ammonia sensitive AWs, Cae Llwyn SSSI, Cae Cwm-Rhocas SSSI and River Ithon SSSI/River Wye SACwould remain. The process contribution of the existing poultry houses to ammonia concentration and nitrogen deposition rate would continue to exceed 100% relevant Critical Level and Critical Load at nearbyAWs.

In addition to this proposal being so close to the River Wye SAC, it is also sited just 1km away from the Bryn Thomas Poultry farm currently housing 32,000 Layers but set to change to broilers in a planned expansion totalling 181,000 birds – pre-submission (Ian Pick Assoc.).

Despite the recent amendments to the Local Development Plan (DM2) requiring applications for IPUs to account for ‘cumulative and in-combination impacts’, no mention of the next door unit has been made to date, and the ‘in-combination’ impacts of the resulting potential 439,000 broilers less than 200m from the Ithon Wye tributary has not been calculated in either application.

NB: both applications exceed critical levels in their own right
